Pirojpur Correspondent:

A special discussion and prayer meeting was held in Pirojpur to mark the 45th martyrdom anniversary of the great freedom fighter, martyr President Ziaur Rahman (Bir Uttam) and his historic Pirojpur arrival day on May 21, 1981. This event was organized on Thursday (May 21, 2026) at the Pirojpur Zilla Parishad Auditorium at the initiative of the Zilla Parishad to honor the brave freedom fighters and the family members of the martyred freedom fighters.
‎
Pirojpur Zilla Parishad Administrator and eminent educationist Principal Alamgir Hossain delivered a very important and instructive speech as the chief guest at the event presided over by brave freedom fighter Nurdida Khaled Robi,
‎.
‎The meeting was attended as special guests by freedom fighter Abdus Salam Baten, freedom fighter MA Rabbani Firoz, Pirojpur District BNP Convener Md. Nazrul Islam Khan, Member Secretary SM Saidul Islam Kismat, Judge Court Public Prosecutor (PP) Adv. Abul Kalam Akon, GP Adv. Syed Sabbir Ahmed, local freedom fighters and members of the martyred families.
‎’Robbers and terrorists will be brought under the law, Pirojpur will have an economic zone’ — Principal Alamgir Hossain
‎In his speech as the chief guest at the meeting, District Council Administrator Principal Alamgir Hossain presented a strong statement on his future work plan, political philosophy and the development of Pirojpur.
He said in clear language, “Those who have looted the people’s wealth in the past, who have oppressed and terrorized the common people, will not get away with anything. They will definitely come under the law. A handful of people created terror in this district. We have to move forward together with the general public of the country by eliminating these looters and terrorists forever.” Referring to the activities of the District Council, he said, “I have spoken one-to-one and informed them of my specific plan. My main goal is to build roads, fulfill election promises and alleviate the suffering of the common people. I am working so that my people do not suffer anymore.” Highlighting the dream of Pirojpur’s economic revolution, the administrator said, “I have a big plan to take Pirojpur forward. The government has about a thousand bighas of khas land (crush land) on the right and left sides of the China-Maitree Bridge. If we all work together, it is possible to build a huge Economic Zone (EPZ) there. There is a possibility of my meeting with the Honorable Prime Minister after Eid. I will present this master plan to him directly on behalf of the brave freedom fighters of Pirojpur.”
‎ Highlighting his political consciousness, Principal Alamgir Hossain said, “I may not have been able to directly fight the liberation war in 1971, but my consciousness and belief have always been of the liberation war. The brave freedom fighters risked their lives to fight for two rights – one, the right to speak (freedom of speech); two, the right to vote. Today, we have to establish that right to vote and the right to rice.”
‎ Reminiscing about his student life, he said, “In 1978, I had the opportunity to meet the then successful President Shaheed Ziaur Rahman, when I was an SSC candidate. Before entering politics, I used to read red books in the presence of respected teachers like Kalam Bhai and Nirmal Dad, who taught us politics and economics. The day of Shaheed Zia’s arrival in Pirojpur on May 21 has awakened our consciousness anew today.”
‎After the chief guest’s speech, special prayers and supplications were offered for the forgiveness of the souls of all the martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the great liberation war of 1971, deep respect for the memory of martyr President Ziaur Rahman, and for the overall peace and prosperity of the country. After the supplication, lunch was arranged for all those present.
‎
‎ The brave freedom fighters present at the meeting welcomed this groundbreaking plan to establish an economic zone on private land in Pirojpur and expressed their firm commitment to stand by this development-oriented initiative of the District Council Administrator.
