Lalmonirhat Corrospenden : A death threat and verbal abuse have been made against Ashadul Islam Sabuj, the Lalmonirhat district representative of the daily Nayadiganta, over a mobile phone for publishing news of embezzlement of lakhs of taka from common people in the name of providing jobs. Journalist Sabuj filed a general diary (GD) at Lalmonirhat Sadar Police Station on Thursday (June 4) night seeking protection for his life in this incident.
According to GD sources, the victim, Ashadul Islam Sabuj, has been serving as the editor of the ‘Natun Banglar Sangbad’ newspaper published from Lalmonirhat and the Lalmonirhat district representative of the daily ‘Nayadiganta’ newspaper for a long time with good reputation. Accused Nayan (33) is a railway employee and son of the late Joynal Abedin of Wireless Colony area of ​​Lalmonirhat city and a Railway Workers League leader.
Journalist Sabuj recently published an investigative report based on specific information that Nayan was using influence during the previous Awami League government to lure various people into jobs by offering them jobs.
Angered by this, accused Nayan called journalist Sabuj’s personal number from his mobile number at approximately 10:11 pm on Thursday (June 4) night and abused him in foul language. At the same time, he threatened to end journalism forever and take the opportunity to cause great harm.
Later, journalist Sabuj appeared at Lalmonirhat Sadar Police Station to ensure the safety of himself and his family and filed a general diary (GD No. 251).
Lalmonirhat Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saad Ahmed confirmed the incident and said that a general diary has been registered regarding the threat to the journalist. An officer has been assigned to investigate the matter and take necessary legal action.
​Meanwhile, the working journalist community of Lalmonirhat has expressed strong condemnation and anger over the incident of publicly threatening a professional journalist for publishing news. They have demanded that the accused railway employee Nayan be brought to justice immediately.
