As always, this year’s budget is nothing but a document of poverty, discrimination and looting. Bangladesh National Awami Party-Bangladesh NAP Chairman Jebel Rahman Gani and Secretary General M. commented that there is no interest of common people in this budget. Golam Mustafa Bhuiyan.

They made this comment in response to the 2023-24 budget announced by the government on Thursday (June 1).

They said that the government has not paid any attention to the issue of budget while keeping in mind the rise in the price of goods. Also, the public rationing system has not prioritized issues such as not increasing the price of electricity.

The leaders also said that there is an unbridled rise in commodity prices which is in no way commensurate with income. People are now struggling to make a living. First of all people think that their livelihood is the main thing. Education, medical care and livelihood are now the major challenges for common citizens. So in this budget there will be people’s perspective to bring down the price of daily commodities within reach but there is no direction in that regard. It is not fair to compel everyone to pay 2000 rupees.

They said that the actual budget given by the government every year reflects the current policy of the ruling political party. Since the liberation war, all ruling political parties and the ruling class have formulated budgets based on the capitalist free market economy. As a result, poverty, inequality, looting-corruption and concentration of wealth accelerated, which is now extreme.

Leaders said that GDP has increased in the course of capitalist development as a result of which wide inequality has been created in the country. Debts have also increased in mega projects of wildlife destruction. On the other hand, the wealth of the owners of stolen money has increased. It is not reasonable to expect people in middle-income countries to continue to subsidize labor-intensive export-oriented industries by working for low wages.

They said, demanding more allocation for education and agriculture sector in the budget, they said that the will and accountability of the government is needed to eliminate the disparity in the budget. Political decision to increase allocation to essential sectors is required which is totally absent at present.

Leaders said that every year the government presents a traditional budget. The government’s proposed budget for 2023-24 is no different. Common people are neglected in this budget. As always, the budget has come out as a discriminatory document. Without political change, it is not possible to change this discriminatory system with looters.
