Last 23-4-2024, on the day of allotment of symbols to the upazila chairman candidates, a fight took place between victim Russel, an independent supporter of the upazila chairman candidate, and Riazul at approximately 11.00 a.m. in Kadamtala Bazar, when Riazul was joined by his gang follower Miraj and others, with GI pipes, hammers, lathi sticks. The victim hit Syed Russell’s head with a hammer, in which Syed Russell’s father: Idris Mir fell seriously ill and was taken to Pirojpur Sadar Hospital, where the doctor on duty referred him to Khulna City Hospital. The victim died yesterday at 11.00 pm while being treated there. The police visited the spot after receiving the information at 12.00 pm and started an operation to arrest the accused. According to the source of the incident, on 15/4/2024, on the day of depositing money for upazila chairman candidates, a fight broke out between Syed Russell and Riazul over a trivial incident. They tried to find a political solution without filing a complaint with the police. Earlier also in 2022, the accused’s hand was broken in a fight between them. Riazul harbors that grudge and looks for an opportunity to take revenge on Russell. Following this, on 23/4/24 at approximately 11.00 am, they found the said Russell on the slope of Kadamtala Bridge and hit him on the head with tree saplings, GI pipes, and then Miraj and other accused started beating Russell with sticks. He was taken to Pirojpur Sadar Hospital and later to Khulna City Hospital where he died on 23/4/2024 at 23.00 hrs.
Under the direction of Pirojpur District Superintendent of Police Mr. Muhammad Shariful Islam PPM Mr. Officer-in-Charge of Pirojpur Sadar Police Station Mr. Md. Asikuzzaman PPM conducted the operation under the leadership of accused Md. Riazul (17) father: Gangua Sang-Kadamtala and Mirazul (20) father: Alamin Sang-Kadamtala duo of Shyamli of Dhaka. Arrested today 24/4/2024 at 10.00 am. In this incident, the victim’s sister Maya Akhter filed a case at Pirojpur Sadar Police Station as a plaintiff with number: 25 Date: 23/4/2014 Section: 143/341/324/326/307/302/34 DAB. The accused will be arrested in the said case and handed over to the learned court. The operation to arrest the remaining absconding accused is continuing.
Deceased Russell Pirojpur was a 2nd year Honors student of Political Science Department of Government Sarwardi College. Superintendent of Police Mr. Muhammad Shariful Islam PPM gave this information in a press briefing at the office of Superintendent of Police of Pirojpur on Wednesday. At that time Mr. Sheikh Mustafizur Rahman, who was promoted to the post of Superintendent of Police, Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance), Mr. Md. Mukit Hasan Khan, Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Ops), Mr. Md. Ashikuzzaman PPM, Officer in Charge of Pirojpur Sadar Police Station along with Print and Electronic Media personnel were present.
