Sunamganj University of Science and Technology (SUBIPRABI) has taken the initiative to admit students in the next session. Permission has been sought from the University Grants Commission (UGC) to open four subjects initially. Trying to open three subjects in Science and one in Engineering. Several officials of the university authorities have given this information. Meanwhile, the decision to acquire 75 acres of land for Sunamganj University of Science and Technology has been informed at the beginning of this month from the Ministry of Education. On November 18, 2020, the Sunamganj University of Science and Technology Act was passed by the National Parliament. Then there was some delay in the work due to differences between the local parliamentarians over the land. On September 17 of last year, all the members of Parliament of Sunamganj came together and determined the land for the site of the university. Earlier on June 15, 2022, Professor Md. was appointed as the first Vice-Chancellor of the University. Abu Naeem Sheikh. Professor Md. Abu Naeem Sheikh was the Head of the Department of Mathematics at Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET), Gazipur. His tenure is four years from the date of appointment. Meanwhile, the temporary office of the university has also been taken in the vicinity of the university campus. He is holding offices both in the capital and there. At the end of January this year, the Vice-Chancellor sent a proposal to the Ministry of Education for the acquisition of 200 acres of land for the university. The Ministry of Education announced the decision to acquire 75 acres of land for the university on the 4th of this month. Accordingly, the Ministry sent a letter to the Vice-Chancellor to submit the documents. On behalf of the vice-chancellor, the documents including the land details have already been submitted to the ministry. Meanwhile, the university authorities have sent a letter to the UGC seeking permission to start teaching in four subjects in the current session (2022-23 session itself). In the letter, permission has been sought for admission of 120 students in each department of 30 in each department of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry in the Faculty of Science and Computer Science and Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering in the two faculties. After getting permission from UGC, admission and teaching will begin. For now, it is being considered to use the buildings of Shantiganj Upazila Health Complex as a campus for teaching students. In this case, the students of Bangabandhu Medical College who are currently there will be transferred to their own academic building of Bangabandhu Medical College campus under construction at Sunamganj Sadar Upazila. University Vice-Chancellor Professor Abu Naeem Sheikh said that administrative approval for land acquisition can be obtained this week. After that a request will be made to the District Commissioner to acquire the land. 120 students will be admitted in four departments in 2022-23 session only if UGC approves. Preparations have started accordingly.
