Miscreants cut off the tongue of an Islamic speaker named Shariful Islam Bhuiya (36), a Sunni speaker, for giving a speech against Shia followers in Akhaura, Brahmanbaria. Bhuiya is the son of Maulana Abdur Rashid Bhuiya, an Arabic lecturer at Sreepur Islamia Fazil Madrasa in Vijaynagar upazila and Maulana Abdur Rashid of Chapuir village in Sadar upazila.
On inquiry, it is known that Maoist Shariful Islam held a mahfil in Daulatbari area of Vijayanagar on Saturday night. He gave a negative speech about Shias in the mahfil. A few people were on their way home at midnight at Azampur railway station area of Akhaura upazila after the mahfil

Akhaura Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Asadul Islam said, I heard news that Maoist Shariful Islam was attacked on his way home for giving a speech against another pro-Islamic party. However, there is still no written complaint on his behalf at the police station
