There is no principal in Kushtia Government College for more than two and a half months. The post has been lying vacant since the retirement of Principal Kazi Manzoor Qadir. The present Vice-Chancellor of the college is in charge. Two people including the last principal sitting in this chair were controversial in all quarters due to various irregularities including women scandals, cutting of college trees, embezzlement of funds. Due to the negligence of the principals, everything from administrative work to academic work has slowed down. Two and a half months have passed without a principal in Kushtia Government College, teachers and students do not want to see corrupt and incompetent persons as principals. The teachers and students feel that the quality of education has also gone down. They feel that an efficient, honest and dedicated principal is needed to bring the college back to its previous state. According to the information of the college, Kazi Manzoor Qadir was the last Principal of Kushtia Government College. His house is in Kumarkhali upazila of Kushtia. He retired in February this year after serving for 5 and a half years.

Md. Badruddoja was in charge of the post of principal before that. After joining, he got involved in various misdeeds, including women scandals, and eventually dropped out of college. He served for 5 years. College teachers and students said, “Government College is a big educational institution. Students study in HSC with Honors, Masters, Degrees in the educational institution. In total there are more than 20 to 25 thousand students. The college earns crores of rupees every year in various sectors. It is looted by collecting money anonymously in various sectors. The last two principals have embezzled crores of rupees from the fund. At the same time, against them, they were involved in sensitive issues like not coming to the college on time, cutting down the college tree, withdrawing lakhs of taka bills on fake vouchers in the name of various programs, and ruining the reputation of the college.

A teacher of the college’s English department, who did not want to be named, said, “The post of principal is lucrative.” Therefore, the incompetent sit on the chair by political debate. After that, they do not see what happened or not. Leaders have a motive for bribery and looting money. The same thing is happening in government colleges too. No competent principal is coming to look after the administrative and academic matters well. Those who are coming are totally incompetent. Several leaders of the teachers’ association said that there has been no principal for more than two months. Now many people have started political lobbying to sit in this chair again. The MP also has relatives. Those recommended by political leaders are either controversial or incompetent in many ways. Good teachers are definitely needed to save government colleges. It is known that Vice Principal Ansar Hossain is currently serving as Acting Principal. He continues to campaign to sit in the principal’s chair. Being a relative of a local MP, he is trying hard. But he is the accomplice of various irregularities and corruption and looting of money during the time of the previous principal Kazi Manjur Qadir.’ He is a soft-spoken person. No one follows his command in the college. He does not have the capacity to run a college. A few senior teachers continue to lead the college. There is no speed in administrative and academic work.

Apart from this, Professor Abdus Sattar of the College’s Physics Department is in the race to become the Principal. Since 2006, this senior teacher has performed various duties of the college. He has performed the duties of the teachers’ association several times. Besides, Central College Principal Prof. Ajmal Gani Arju and Amla College Principal Badsha Jahangir are trying as principals. Among these, Ajmal Gani was removed from office after various irregularities including money laundering, leaking of questions while serving in the Jessore Board. At the same time, after taking charge of the government central college, there were allegations of misappropriation of millions of funds. Professor Abdus Sattar said, ‘I am serving the college with devotion. No one can show a single complaint. I have done no nepotism. I can’t sit on a chair if I want to. If the government considers it, then it will be seen. Kushtia Government College Principal (Acting) Professor Ansar Hossain said, “There is no principal for more than two months. I have to do my duty. It is important to appoint the post of principal as soon as possible. It is difficult to run such a large educational institution. There are various pressures.
