Jatka Conservation Week 2023 will be celebrated from 31 March to 4 April like every year, to create public awareness to protect jatka for the development of hilsa resources in the country and to discourage fishermen from harvesting jatka. This decision was taken in the meeting of the National Task Force Committee on Hilsa Resource Development in the conference room of the Directorate of Fisheries in the capital’s Matsya Bhavan on Tuesday (March 14) morning. The demand for non-vegetarian food is being met. Through the production, marketing and processing of fish, a source of income is being created for those involved in this sector. Through this sector, entrepreneurs are being created, unemployment is being eliminated. This sector is playing a role in earning foreign exchange and making the rural economy work. As a result, the country is moving forward. Now we are not only self-sufficient in fish, but our fish is being exported to about 52 countries. He also said that according to the global report, Bangladesh is one of the three countries in the world that have done well in fish production in the Corona situation. On the other hand, Bangladesh has risen to the third position in terms of fish production. The country is moving forward through unprecedented and revolutionary changes in the country’s fisheries sector with the collective efforts of various people involved in the fisheries sector, including fishermen. The minister also added that the fisheries sector is not only limited to fish collection, development of the country, earning of foreign exchange, food supply, elimination of unemployment, creation of entrepreneurs are related to this sector. So this sector cannot be looked down upon in any way. We have strict measures to stop Jatka killing. No exemption can be given to those who wish to do otherwise. Strict action will be taken against those who want to violate the law. Protection of national interest will be given priority. Our mission is to protect fish. Mentioning that if the fish is big, the fishermen will harvest it, the minister also said to the fishermen that fishermen can earn more money by selling big fish. So it is in their interest that they should follow the law in this regard. Some unscrupulous traders force poor fishermen to harvest fish during prohibited times. One cannot go anywhere to collect jatka on the advice or inducement of any dishonest person. In the meeting, it was decided to hold various programs centrally and at the district and upazila levels during the Jatka Conservation Week. The inauguration ceremony of Jatka Conservation Week 2023 will be held in Pirojpur on 31 March . After the inauguration ceremony, a colorful naval rally will be held on this day. In addition, on the occasion of Jatka Conservation Week, screening of videos and documentaries on Jatka conservation, organizing discussion programs on radio and television, organizing workshops on Hilsa, organizing meetings and seminars, special expeditions to different fishing grounds, markets and landing centers of Dhaka city and special mobile courts were taken in the meeting. is It should be noted that the Jatka Conservation Week has been celebrated every year since 2007 to highlight the importance of Jatka protection for the development of hilsa and fishery resources.
