Minister of State for Water Resources Zahid Farooq said that it is not possible to take up sustainable projects in haste to protect Haor crops. Because keeping in mind its uniqueness and biodiversity, expert survey is needed before implementing the project. It is not possible to complete the crop protection barrier within the given time. The dam must be suitable for work first. Most of the water takes a long time to come down.

Today, the state minister said these things to reporters after visiting the Tufankhali Fosal Raksha Dam of Baram Haor of Dirai Upazila of Sunamganj.

The state minister said that Haor’s permanent dam or river excavation project is a very expensive project. It takes a lot of time to implement these projects. Global recession has been going on for the past three years. Bangladesh is not out of recession. Hon’ble Prime Minister is approving the project despite recession. Haor’s work continues. You have to be patient for this. Good projects will be taken up for the development of Haor in future. Soon the project of dredging 19 rivers of Haor area will be taken up. Work is going on for that. Apart from this, another project worth Tk 600 crore is awaiting approval. If they are implemented, there will not be so much talk about the dam.

He also said that it is not possible to build the Haor dam by limiting the time frame, because it is not possible due to natural reasons. After the water recedes, the work can be started only if the place is suitable for work. So not being able to do it within the deadline is not right. We are working earnestly on the dam so that the farmer can bring his crops home safely

Member of Parliament for reserved seat Shamima Akhtar Khanam, Additional Secretary of Ministry of Water Resources Mallik Saeed Mahbub, Deputy Commissioner Didar Alam Mohammad Maksud Chowdhury, Additional Chief Engineer of Water Development Board SM Shahidul Islam, Chief Engineer of Eastern Zone Khushi Mohan Sarkar, Supervising Engineer Prabir Kumar Goswami were present. , Sunamganj Water Development Board Executive Engineer Mamun Howlader, Samsuddoha and others.

The state minister also visited the crop protection dams of Tangir Haor, Jaldoba, Jaipur Udgalbil Haor of Dirai and Shalla upazilas.

To date, the Ministry of Water Resources has given a concession of Tk 100 crore for the construction of dams. This year more than 4 lakh farmers of the district have planted boro on 2 lakh 23 thousand hectares of land.
