Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal said at the opening ceremony of the election related workshop in Cox’s Bazar that the main task of the Election Commission is to enable the voters to exercise their right to vote. It is not the commission’s business to see who the voters are and which party they have voted for. If the voters cannot vote, if they are prevented from voting, if their rights are curtailed at the polling station, then we have to take responsibility for the failure with all concerned. Last Saturday (March 11) in an elite hotel in Cox’s Bazar, ‘Using modern technology in electoral system, challenges and ways forward’. He said this in the speech of the chief guest at the opening ceremony of the day-long workshop. The workshop was held under the initiative of Chittagong Regional Election Office under the capacity building and strengthening project of the Election Commission Secretariat. In the speech of the chief guest, Kazi Habibul Awal said that no complaint has been received based on the information regarding the number of votes cast in the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM). EVMs are capable of voting in 50 to 80 constituencies in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
