Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the National Insurance Day-2023 to further develop the insurance sector and increase public awareness about insurance. He inaugurated the day at Bangabandhu International Conference Center in the capital this morning. The event was jointly organized by the Ministry of Finance and the Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority (IDRA). The day is being celebrated with the motto ‘If we are protected by insurance, we will move forward together’. President Md. Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today congratulated everyone involved in the insurance industry including insurance companies and common people on the occasion of National Insurance Day. On the occasion of the day, they gave separate messages congratulating them and terming the theme of the day as timely. Finance Ministry Financial Institutions Division Secretary Sheikh Mohammad Salim Ullah, IDRA Chairman Zainul Bari and Bangladesh Insurance Association (BIA) President Sheikh Kabir Hossain spoke on the occasion. A video documentary on the insurance sector was screened on the occasion. On March 1, 1960, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman started working at the then Alfa Insurance Company. Since then his government has been observing March 1 as National Insurance Day every year. In memory of the great architect of independence, the greatest Bengali of all time and father of the nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the government last year upgraded the ‘National Insurance Day’ from ‘B’ category to ‘A’ category.
