Ā Capital dredging of Ramnabad Channel, the largest dredging scheme in the history of Bangladesh, implemented under the Ministry of Shipping and by Payarabandar Authority, has been successfully completed. Jan de Nul Tartrik officially handed over the channel to the Pyara Port Authority today on 26th March 2023, the Great Independence Day. On this occasion, a press briefing was organized by the port at 11:30 am on Sunday morning at the meeting room of Payra Port in which Chairman of Payra Port Authority Rear Admiral Mohammad Sohail, OSP, NUP, PPM, PSC, BN, Scheme Director Commodore Rajeev Tripura, (E) , NDC, PSP, BN Port members and Jan De Nul Project Director Jan Moens along with Payra Banedar and other officials of Jan De Nul and journalists from various electronic and print media were present. Local Member of Parliament (Patuakhali-4) Mr. Muhibbur Rahman Muhib was also present in the said press briefing. The port chairman said, Ramnabad channel capital and maintenance dredging project of Payra Port is the single largest project in the history of Bangladesh, which Payra Port has been able to successfully complete. The channel depth of this port has increased to 10.5 meters, making Payra port the deepest port in the country at present. As a result, large Panamax-shaped vessels with a length of 225 meters and a width of 32 meters will be able to directly enter Payra Port with 40,000-50,000 MT/3000-35000 Teus products. As a result, Bangladesh’s foreign trade will be greatly expanded through the capacity of this port. He said. At the same time, he also said that the overall preparations for the inauguration of the first terminal of Payra Port by the Honorable Prime Minister in 2023 are being taken. If this terminal is opened, the import-export activities of the port will increase many times. Long years of studies and surveys have been done before the implementation of capital dredging. Data from the study were analyzed by Dutch international consultancy firm Royal Huskunnig and CDR. Later, UK-based HR Wallingford’s simulator Real Time Simulation and Underside Keel Clearance were tested and ultimately designed a channel of international standard and capital dredging was done. He said that by using this channel, large Panamax ships will be able to move easily in the port. Project Director JDN, Jan Moens said, it is a matter of pride for Jan De Nul to be directly involved in the third sea port Payra capital and maintenance dredging of Bangladesh. Jdn is very pleased to have successfully mined an international standard channel using its own experience and expertise in this project. JDN hopes, through this success, the amity and friendship between the two countries will increase from time to time.

Local Member of Parliament Mr. Mihabbur Rahman Muhib said, due to the completion of capital dredging, Poira Port has become one of the best ports in the world. Through this port, employment resources for millions of people will be created. And the port’s quality of life will improve. Chairman of Payra Port Authority, Rear Admiral Mohammad Sohail said, Payra Port is the country’s first smart port built after the independence of Bangladesh. Already 6,500 acres of land has been acquired. In future, the port will be connected with the first terminal Multipurpose Terminal (1200m), Container Terminal-1 (1400m), Container Terminal-2 (1400m), Liquid Bulk Terminal, Coal Terminal, LNG Terminal etc. . The port chairman also said that there has already been a lot of interest among domestic and foreign businessmen and investors around this port, looking for suitable investment opportunities to create industrial cities, special economic zones, ship breaking industries, dock yards, airports and other industrial establishments based on the port. There is a lot of employment. Finally, the port chairman expressed gratitude and thanks to the honorable Prime Minister, the honorable state minister for shipping, the secretary of shipping and other ministries related to the port.
