A human chain has been held in Goalanda demanding the construction of the second Padma Bridge on the Daulatdia river route in Rajbari and Paturia river route in Manikganj at the earliest.
The one-hour human chain was organized by the Goalanda Protest Mancha at the Goalanda bus stand area on the Dhaka-Khulna highway from 10:30 am on Sunday (May 17).
Speakers in the human chain said that the Daulatdia-Paturia river route is a very important means of communication for the people of the southwestern region. But due to frequent ferry crises, long traffic jams and hardships, passengers and the transport sector face huge losses. If the second Padma Bridge is built quickly, the long-standing suffering of the people of this region will be reduced and economic activities including trade and commerce will be more dynamic.
Former Goalanda Upazila BNP president Sultan Nur Islam Munnu, Goalanda Upazila Chhatra Dal president Rezaul Hasan Mithu, Municipal Krishak Dal president Altab Mahmud, educationist lawyer Nazmul Islam, Daulatdia Union Jamaat general secretary Abu Said Sohag, Municipal Chhatra Dal general secretary Muktar Mahmud and leaders and activists of various social and political organizations were present at the time.
