A young woman named Sumona Akhter (18) died after being stabbed by her ex-husband in Pirojpur.
The incident took place in Jhatkathi area of ​​Sadar upazila at around 9:30 pm on Tuesday (December 23). Later, she died while undergoing treatment at around 2 am on Wednesday.
The deceased Sumona Akhter is the daughter of Faruk Sikder of Jhatkathi village of ward number 2 of Pirojpur municipality. The accused Amit Hasan (25) is the son of Lutfar Sheikh of Education Office Road area of ​​Sadar upazila. The police have arrested the accused.
According to police and family sources, Sumona and Amit got married about eight years ago through a love affair. They have a five-year-old son in their family. It is alleged that Amit Hasan was addicted to drugs for a long time and used to demand dowry and physically abuse them. Sumana divorced him two months ago for these reasons.
On Tuesday (December 23), the day of the incident, around 10 pm, Amit Hasan entered Sumana’s house with a knife and stabbed her indiscriminately before fleeing. Sumana’s family members and locals came to rescue her and admitted her to Pirojpur District Hospital after she screamed. Later, the accused Amit tried to attack her again while she was undergoing treatment at the hospital. At this time, Sumana’s relatives and locals helped him and handed him over to the police. Doctors prepared to send Sumana to Khulna Medical College Hospital for better treatment, but she died on the way.
Resident Medical Officer (RMO) of Pirojpur District Hospital Dr. Nizam Uddin said, “The young woman was admitted to the hospital with serious injuries. She was referred to Khulna for better treatment, but she died before being taken there.”
Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) Nasrin Jahan said, “A woman died while undergoing treatment after being stabbed by her ex-husband. A murder case has been filed against the accused.
