World Autism Awareness Day celebrated in Pirojpur with colorful arrangements

‎With the theme “Autism is not a limitation – every life is precious”, World Autism Awareness Day-2026 was celebrated in Pirojpur with colorful rallies and discussion meetings. The day was celebrated on Wednesday (May 13) morning under the joint initiative of Pirojpur District Administration, District Social Service Office and Disability Service and Support Center.
‎On the occasion of the day, a colorful rally was taken out from Pirojpur Circuit House in the morning. The rally ended at the premises of the Deputy Commissioner’s office after circumambulating important roads of the city. Later, a discussion meeting was held in the Shaheed Abdur Razzak-Saif Mizan Memorial Meeting Room of the Deputy Commissioner’s office. As a special attraction, various local autistic children and their guardians participated in the program. The lively presence of the children added a different dimension to the entire event.
‎​The function was presided over by Deputy Director of Pirojpur District Social Services Office Md. Iqbal Kabir and Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md. Alauddin Bhuiyan Jani was present as the chief guest. Assistant Director of the District Social Services Office Md. Ibrahim Khalil and Pirojpur correspondent of Daily Observer Ziaul Ahsan spoke as special guests at the function.
‎​In his speech as the chief guest, Md. Alauddin Bhuiyan Jani said, “Autistic children are an integral part of our society. They are not a burden on society, but if they get proper care, special education and compassion, they can also become an asset to the country. Autism is not a disease, it is a special condition that we have to deal with through collective awareness.” He also mentioned that autistic children have many latent talents; they can show extraordinary skills in mathematics, drawing or sports.
‎​The speakers at the meeting emphasized on protecting the fundamental rights of autistic children and increasing specialized service centers and therapy facilities at the district level to develop their latent talents. They expressed hope that especially the awareness of the parents and the joint initiatives of the government and the private sector will play an important role in the normal development of these children.
‎​At the beginning of the program, the City Social Service Officer Md. Masum Billah recited from the Holy Quran and Amal Chandra Roy recited the Gita. The meeting, which began with the welcome speech of the District Disability Affairs Officer Priyambada Bhattacharya, also spoke, and BRAC District Coordinator Md. Zahidul Islam and Positive Pirojpur President Md. Habibur Rahman.
‎​Senior officials of the district administration, representatives of various NGOs and local media personnel were present in the said meeting.
