Dinajpur Correspondent: A group of victim women held a press conference and human chain demanding legal action against Abdus Samad of Dinajpur Sadar Upazila on charges of fraud. At the same time, they demanded that the release of five leaders of the Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP), who were arrested in a case and are in jail for taking a stand for helpless women, be ensured.
Aklima Begum, wife of Surat Ali of Darbarpur village of Sadar Upazila, read out a written statement at a press conference organized at the Dinajpur Press Club on Thursday (July 9, 2026) afternoon.
In her written statement, she alleged that Abdus Samad has been harassing innocent people in various ways by deceiving and using fake documents for a long time. She claimed that Abdus Samad had taken a total of Tk 760,000 from her at various times, assuring her of resolving the issues related to the documents and possession of 50 percent of the land in the name of their grandfather and father-in-law in Khosalpur Mouza. Later, he provided a copy of a CS Khatian that claimed to be sealed and signed by the Dinajpur Settlement Office. Later, Aklima Begum alleged that she found it fake after checking with the concerned office.
She further said that Abdus Samad kept making various excuses when he wanted the money back. When the matter was reported to the Upazila Youth Shakti chief organizer Ajmir Hossain, on July 5, Arif Moon, the co-organizing secretary of the NCP Youth Shakti central committee, and some others went to talk to Abdus Samad in the Lilir More area of ​​the city about returning the money owed. At that time, Abdus Samad’s son Mamun informed the police, and the police arrested Arif Moon, Ajmir Hossain, Md. Hasin Ishraq Mim and five others were arrested and taken to Kotwali Police Station.
The speakers at the press conference claimed that the five were later sent to jail in a case filed by Mamun. They alleged that the case was motivated and baseless. They demanded an impartial investigation into the incident, uncovering the true facts and the release of the five NCP leaders in jail.
After the press conference, a human chain program was held in front of the Dinajpur Press Club with the participation of about three hundred women. The participants in the human chain demanded a fair investigation into the allegations, legal action against the culprits and the release of the detainees.
The aggrieved women including Momtaz Begum, Mosha Ritu, Zaba Khatun, Surma, Mahbuba Akter Runi were present at the press conference.
