Democracy destroyed by fascist rule: BNP to the rescue – Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that in the last 15 years, the Awami League fascist regime had destroyed the country’s democracy, the economy was collapsing, and the basic rights of the people were taken away. During that regime, thousands of cases were filed against BNP. Therefore, BNP will work to fully restore the structure and democracy that were destroyed during the fascist regime. Now BNP must be strengthened as a political party. He said these things as the chief guest at the inauguration of the district BNP’s bi-annual conference at the Government Boys’ High School Big Field organized by Thakurgaon District BNP on Monday afternoon, September 8, 2025. Fakhrul Islam said that on July 24, young people, youth, women and children gave their lives on the streets of Dhaka to restore their rights. He said that the founder of the BNP party, martyred President Ziaur Rahman, had formed a party by struggling for democracy. BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia gave a new Bangladesh vision centered on Ziaur Rahman’s 21 points. He has been agitating against tyranny for 9 long years. He has fought against the fascist regime. He said that the acting chairman of the party, Tarique Rahman, is the future leader. The people of the country are looking for him. Democracy will be strengthened under his leadership in the future. He told the leaders and activists that BNP has introduced multi-party democracy. In addition, it has given freedom to the media. Now, the party is formulating a 31-point program to form the political infrastructure of the country with the aim of fully establishing the state. He said that BNP will form a committee in this district today through the conference. On the one hand, it will show a new path, and on the other hand, it will establish democracy in Thakurgaon. At this time, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir declared the auspicious inauguration of the conference. BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman was present as a guest at the conference. In addition, BNP Central Vice Chairman Shamsujjuha Dudu, Rangpur Divisional Organizing Secretary Principal Asadul Habib Dulu participated in the district conference. The conference was presided over by freedom fighter Nur Karim. In this, 808 councilors from 5 upazilas and 3 municipalities of the district voted and elected the district leadership.
