The ‘Global Health Summit 2026’ was held grandly on Wednesday (June 24) at The Westin Hotel in the capital. In recognition of his special contribution to the development of the country’s health sector and improvement of the quality of medical services, a special honor award was presented to Universal Medical College Hospital Managing Director (MD) Dr. Ashish Chakraborty at the event. At the end of the event, State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yaser Khan Chowdhury handed over this prestigious award to him.
Present as an invited guest at the event, Dr. Ashish Chakraborty delivered a very important speech on various aspects of the health sector and the quality of medicines and accessible medical services in the country.
“The US Pharmacopeia or British Pharmacopeia—that is, the most advanced and affordable medicine in Bangladesh. The price of medicine is high—this is a lie. Since I am not in the pharmaceutical business, it is my duty to make people aware.
Similarly, in Bangladesh, it is the most accessible and easily accessible [medical service] in the whole world. You can go to America and drink milk tea, but you cannot see a doctor whenever you want. So, let’s respect the medical system, the health system of this country.
I say, all over the world, health (health sector) is a ‘special child’ or a special child. And in our country, health is a street child—with whom whatever they want is done. If we take proper care of it, then we can go much further.
I welcome everyone to this event of the Global Health Summit. Congratulations to all those who received awards today and thank the organizers. Those who organize such events are basically feeding their own minds. “Like Enam Bhai, I also occasionally give awards to people at various events to provide food for thought. Thank you all for giving me your time.”
Top figures from the country’s health sector, medical experts and media personnel were present at this Global Health Summit. The organizers expressed their hope that such initiatives and recognition will play a very inspiring role in further advancing the country’s medical system and maintaining the quality of healthcare.
