The Upazila Taskforce Committee meeting formed to implement government directives for mother hilsa conservation during the main breeding season of hilsa has been held.
The meeting was held at the Upazila Parishad conference room on Tuesday (September 30) at noon.
Upazila Fisheries Officer Manoj Kumar Saha presided over the meeting, with Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Md. Raihan-Uzzaman present as the chief guest and Borhanuddin Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Siddiqur Rahman as the special guest. Apart from this, Upazila Social Service Officer Md. Enamul Haque and others were also present.
The speakers at the meeting said that hilsa is the national fish of Bangladesh. It has an important contribution to the country’s economy and nutritional supply. But due to excessive harvesting, transportation and marketing, hilsa production is under threat. To address this situation, the government conducts a mother hilsa conservation campaign every year.
