Students have formed a human chain demanding that the treasurer be appointed from the teachers’ council of their own campus, not from outsiders, at the Noakhali University of Science and Technology (NSTU). During this, they demanded that a qualified teacher from the university be appointed as treasurer. The students held this program at the central Shaheed Minar premises of the university on Sunday (July 26) afternoon.
During this, they displayed various festoons related to this demand. The students said that the treasurer post of the university has been vacant for a long time. As a result, various complications are constantly arising, and various activities are being disrupted. They demanded that the university should appoint teachers who are skilled academicians, participated in the anti-fascist movement and played a courageous role in the July Movement to the post.
They said that despite the fact that there are teachers who are qualified to become VCs in their own university, why should external teachers be appointed as treasurers here. The time has come to evaluate the teachers who have led the anti-fascist movement in the July mass uprising in the past, and who have played a vocal role against the irregularities and corruption of the university administration in the past.
The students claim that if a treasurer is appointed from an outside university, their responsibility towards the institution is less. And the teachers of their own university are devalued. Also, when someone new is appointed, it takes a lot of time for him to understand the environment of the institution, as a result, he leaves again after the term of service ends. Therefore, the students have only one demand: to appoint a qualified person from this university as treasurer and show respect for the demands of the teachers and students of the university.
