A special public awareness ‘Town Hall Meeting’ has been held in Pirojpur to keep the youth and youth away from serious social diseases like drugs, cybercrime and juvenile gangs. This view-sharing meeting was organized at the initiative of RAB-8, Barisal on Monday (July 27) at 11 am at the Shaheed Omar Faruk Auditorium of Pirojpur Sadar Upazila Parishad.
Senior officials of RAB-8 were present as guests at the event. The main responsibility of the meeting was attended by RAB-8 Deputy Commander Major Md. Ashiq Ikram Sourav and RAB-8 CPSC Company Company Commander Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Kamruzzaman, PPM-Service.
Pirojpur Sadar Upazila Executive Officer Mamunur Rashid spoke as a special guest. In addition, representatives of the local administration, teachers, guardians, imams, Sudhijans, representatives of social and voluntary organizations, leaders of business organizations, retired armed forces members and a large number of students from various schools and colleges participated in the program.
In their speeches, the speakers said that at present, drugs, cybercrime and juvenile gangs have become a big threat to the future of the youth. It is not possible to eradicate these social ills by enforcing the law alone; for this, collective awareness and initiative of families, educational institutions and people from all walks of life is required. They emphasized on keeping the youth busy in regular sports, cultural activities and creative work to protect them from deviance.
In the meeting, students were given detailed ideas about ways to stay safe from cybercrime, awareness in using social media and the process of getting legal assistance. In addition to seeking the general public’s cooperation in curbing crime, RAB-8 strongly assured to be there for any need at all times.
​In the open discussion session, teachers, guardians and local residents presented the law and order situation in their respective areas. They welcomed this timely initiative of RAB-8 and requested to organize such awareness meetings regularly in the future to prevent social degradation.
​At the end of the meeting, RAB-8, Barisal distributed various types of sports equipment among the students present to encourage the youth to play sports.
