Md. Hasan Kabir Siddiqui Munna, Special Correspondent: The Honorable State Minister for Housing and Public Works and Chairman of Rajdhani Unnayan Kartik (RAJUK) inspected Gulshan Lake and RAJUK’s URP building in Mohakhali with the aim of protecting the capital’s environment, keeping the lakes pollution-free and improving the quality of administrative services.
The inspection was conducted at 9 am on Wednesday (July 29, 2026) under the leadership of Honorable State Minister for Housing and Public Works Mr. Ahmed Sohel Manjur, MP and Honorable Chairman of RAJUK Engineer Md. Riazul Islam. Senior officials of the concerned departments of RAJUK were present at the time.
During the visit, the State Minister and RAJUK Chairman observed the overall environment, cleanliness, waste management and activities taken to prevent water pollution of different parts of Gulshan Lake. They also provided necessary directions to the concerned officials.
First, the cleaning activities of Gulshan Lake in Kalachandpur area were inspected. At this time, the State Minister inquired in detail about the progress of the work of setting up a sewage treatment plant (STP) to prevent water pollution of the lake. Later, they inspected the lake area adjacent to Road No. 18 in Gulshan-2 area.
During the visit, the State Minister said that effective and sustainable steps must be taken to keep the lakes of Dhaka clean, healthy and environmentally friendly. He directed all the concerned departments and organizations to work in a coordinated manner to prevent pollution of the lake and protect the environment.
After inspecting the waste management and cleaning activities of Gulshan Lake, the State Minister visited the RAJUK URP building in Mohakhali. A meeting was held there with the officials and employees of RAJUK.
In the meeting, the State Minister directed the officials and employees to perform their assigned duties with utmost responsibility, honesty and transparency. He said that RAJUK must ensure people-friendly and compassionate behavior towards the common citizens who come to get services. Providing fast and effective services to the service recipients must be given utmost importance.
He also said that there is no alternative to improving the quality of administrative services and ensuring strict accountability at all levels to build a planned, sustainable and safe city.
The city residents are seeing such direct supervision of the government as a positive step in restoring the water bodies and lakes flowing through the capital to a healthy and environmentally friendly state and strengthening the administrative reforms of RAJUK. If the coordinated efforts of all the concerned organizations are successful, the path to building a clean, livable and modern Dhaka will be smoother.
