Azad Hossain : The Bangladesh government has stepped in to address concerns surrounding a proposed garbage dump adjacent to the Archery Training Academy in Tongi, Gazipur. State Minister for Youth and Sports, Aminul Haq, assured that prompt measures will be taken to ensure that training conditions for the country’s promising archers remain unaffected.
​The State Minister made these remarks on Saturday while visiting the Tongi Archery Training Academy during the Joint Training Program and the President’s Challenge Cup Archery Tournament.
​Addressing reporters, the Minister noted that once the Bangladesh Archery Federation formally submits the details of the issue, he will personally intervene and coordinate with the Gazipur City Corporation to find a swift resolution.
​”Archery is a crucial discipline for Bangladesh, and our goal is to ensure international success. We will take every step necessary to protect the training environment and provide all required facilities for our athletes,” said Aminul Haq.
​Strategic Vision and Athlete Support
​Emphasizing the government’s long-term roadmap for sports development, the Minister highlighted archery and shooting as high-priority disciplines. He outlined plans for sustained, long-term training programs aimed at securing medals at the South Asian (SA) Games, Asian Games, and the Olympics.
​To enhance financial security and professional recognition for archers, the government has already brought 15 to 16 athletes under sports allowance and sports card schemes.
​Key Infrastructure & Future Plans
​Grassroots Development: Plans are underway to establish modern “Sports Villages” nationwide to scout and train grassroots talent.
​Phase-One Rollout: Operations for the first 10 Sports Villages will commence this year, with an ultimate target of covering all 64 districts. Each facility will feature modern setups for both archery and shooting.
​Federation Leadership: Expressing confidence in the newly formed ad-hoc committee of the Bangladesh Archery Federation, the Minister confirmed that elections for a full-fledged executive committee will take place within the next three months to further modernize the sport.
​Upon his arrival at the academy, the Minister was welcomed by Kazi Rajib Uddin Ahmed Chapol, President of World Archery Asia and the Bangladesh Archery Federation, alongside General Secretary Syed Tanvir Raihan and executive committee members. During the visit, he interacted with participating international archers and inspected the ongoing training activities.
