Rohingya youth arrested with weapons and bullets in joint RAB-Army operation

Mohammad Sohel, Cox’s Bazar : A Rohingya youth has been arrested with a foreign pistol, magazine and bullets in a joint operation by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-15 and the Bangladesh Army in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar.
The operation was conducted in front of Kamal’s grocery shop at Ghona Moragachthala Bazar in Balukhali area of ​​Palangkhali Union of Ukhia Upazila at approximately 3:20 am on Monday (August 3).
RAB-15 said that based on a secret tip-off, members of RAB-15’s CPC-2 and Bangladesh Army jointly conducted a special operation. During the operation, a person was arrested when he tried to escape after sensing the presence of RAB.
Later, a search of his body revealed a foreign pistol, a magazine, three rounds of bullets (two live and one damaged) and a mobile phone from the right side of the waist of the lungi he was wearing.
The arrested person is Hafez Shafiq (19). He is a resident of Rohingya Camp-11. During initial interrogation, he could not give a satisfactory explanation about carrying weapons, RAB said.
The arrested accused, recovered weapons and evidence have been handed over to Ukhia Police Station for necessary legal action under the Arms Act in this incident.
RAB-15 said that such intelligence-based operations will continue in the future to recover illegal weapons, suppress terrorism, and ensure public safety.
