Satkhira Correspondent: A seven-year-old sick child was presented in the court of the Satkhira Family Court. The child’s left hand was unusually swollen and dark in color compared to the right hand, so the judge himself called the child to the doctor and observed his physical condition. Later, in the verdict, he ordered the father to pay the entire cost of the child’s surgery, arrears and regular maintenance, and dowry.
Senior Civil Judge Md. Hasanul Banna, Judge (Additional Duty) of Satkhira Family Court-2, recently delivered this verdict. Local News
According to the case records, the child’s parents got married on February 10, 2016. They got divorced on October 16, 2024. The child is currently living with his mother in Debhata Upazila. The child’s father is a resident of Kaliganj Upazila and works in a multinational organization in Dhaka.
According to medical records, the child is suffering from vascular malformation. Due to this disease, the normal blood circulation in his left hand is obstructed, causing his hand to swell abnormally and turn black. According to the doctor’s advice, the surgery requires about 2 lakh 51 thousand taka.
The child’s mother filed a case in the court in March last year seeking dower, maintenance and the child’s medical expenses. During the hearing of the case, the child was produced in the court after the plaintiff’s application, and the judge observed his physical condition on the spot.
The plaintiff’s lawyer, Advocate Md. Ferdous Hossain, said that after the application to the court, the judge called the child to Dias and observed his sick hand. The later verdict gave special importance to the child’s treatment.
The verdict ordered the child to pay 2 lakh 51 thousand taka for the child’s surgery, 39 thousand taka for the arrears of maintenance for 13 months and 8 thousand taka per month for the child’s education and treatment in the future. In addition, the child’s mother was ordered to pay 1 lakh 25 thousand taka as dower.
Earlier, while the case was pending, the court had fixed monthly maintenance of Tk 3,000 for the child in an interim order.
Although attempts were made to contact the child’s father several times to get his statement on the matter, he did not respond. However, his younger brother said that they are aware of the court’s verdict and have a positive attitude towards following the court’s instructions.
According to the legal community, this verdict will set an important precedent in ensuring the best interests of the child and the legal responsibilities of the father.
