Proper use of public money must be ensured: LGRD Minister

Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has directed to implement the ongoing development projects of the local government department in a fast, cost-effective and people-friendly manner. He said that the welfare of the people is the main goal of the government’s development activities and all concerned should give utmost importance to ensuring that not a single taka of public money is wasted.

He said these things as the chief guest at the progress review meeting of various development projects being implemented by the local government department and city corporation at the meeting room of the local government department at the secretariat today, Thursday.

The minister said that every development project is taken in the interest of the people and is implemented with the people’s money. Therefore, transparency, accountability and timeliness must be ensured in the implementation of the project. At the same time, the project expenditure must be kept at a reasonable level.

He further said that just as the image of the government shines through development activities, any kind of irregularity or negligence can tarnish the reputation of the entire ministry. Therefore, he urged the concerned officers and project directors to be more responsible.

The meeting, chaired by Md. Shahidul Hasan, Secretary of the Local Government Division, was attended by senior officials of the ministry, representatives of various city corporations and project directors of development projects. The meeting discussed in detail the implementation progress of the ongoing projects, cost management and future work plans.

In the meeting, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir emphasized on completing the development projects within the stipulated time and adopting modern and sustainable plans to improve the quality of public services.
