Chandraghona Christian Hospital organizes three-day search and rescue workshop to enhance youth’s skills in disaster management

A three-day workshop on “Search and Rescue” has started with the participation of youth volunteers under the initiative of Chandraghona Christian Hospital’s Comprehensive Community Health Program in Kaptai Upazila of Rangamati.

The workshop was inaugurated at 10 am on Thursday (May 14) at Tong Eco Resort in Mogban Union of Rangamati Sadar Upazila. 30 youth from different unions of Kaptai, Rajasthali and Rangunia Upazilas participated in the workshop.

The program was presided over by Chandraghona Christian and Leprosy Hospital Director Dr. Prabir Khiang. Kaptai Upazila Youth Development Officer Md. Hossain was present as the chief guest.

In the speech of the chief guest, Md. Hossain said,
“Trained youth volunteers can play an important role in natural disasters, accidents or emergency situations. Search and rescue training will enhance the human values ​​and social responsibility of the youth and make them skilled in dealing with real situations.”

In his speech as the chairman, Dr. Prabir Khiang said,
“Landslides, accidents and natural disasters often occur in the hilly regions. It is very important to train local youth to conduct quick rescue operations in such situations. This training will further strengthen humanitarian aid operations in the future.”

Mohammad Fahim Uddin, Deputy Youth Head of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society Rangamati, and Md. Shakil, Head of Training and Co-education Department, were present as resource persons at the workshop conducted by Bijoy Marma, Program Manager of Comprehensive Community Health Program of Chandraghona Christian Hospital.

The three-day workshop will provide hands-on training to participants on disaster relief activities, first aid, safe evacuation of the injured, emergency communication systems, and team coordination.

Members of the Youth Volunteer Team from Raikhali Union of Kaptai Upazila, Bangalhalia Union of Rajasthali Upazila, and Chandraghona-Kadamtali Union of Rangunia Upazila participated in the workshop.

The organizers said that all expenses related to the three-day stay, food, and training of the trainees are being borne by the Comprehensive Community Health Program of Chandraghona Christian Hospital.
