Patuakhali Correspondent:- After being attacked while collecting information on the slaughter and sale of sick cows, Patuakhali District Correspondent of Dainik Janata Khabar Md. Abul Kalam Azad held a press conference at Patuakhali District Reporters Club on Saturday (July 25) at 3:30 pm.
In a written statement, he said that on July 23, a sick cow belonging to Sattar Sharif of Sharif Bari in Lohalia Union was sold to two businessmen of Kashipur Bazar, Bhai Bhai Meat Shop owner Manjurul Hawlader and Shakil Meat Shop owner Harun Hawlader for 65 thousand taka. Later, it was learned that the cow had been suffering from rotting disease, hoof disease and lumpy skin disease (LSD) for a long time. The cow was slaughtered on the morning of July 24 and sold to their business establishment.
He said that after learning about the matter from a reliable source, he first informed the Baufal Upazila Executive Officer and Sanitary Officer and went to the spot and asked the traders concerned, who admitted to the matter. Later, when he informed the Upazila Executive Officer, the sale of the cow was stopped through the village police. At the same time, when he went to the spot in the afternoon along with an officer of the District Livestock Department and the District Sanitary Officer, some people led by traders attacked him.
At the press conference, journalist Abul Kalam Azad alleged that during the attack, Faisal Malik, Sajib Malik, Sobahan Malik and Sohag Jomaddar first beat him and later spread the video on social media and accused Rob Jomaddar’s son Azgar Jomaddar of snatching his mobile phone from his pocket. The injured journalist claimed that he has not yet received the snatched mobile phone back.
At the press conference, he also said that the attack on him was due to collecting information in the public interest and informing the concerned authorities. He demanded a proper investigation into the incident, bringing the culprits to justice and recovering the stolen mobile phones.
At the press conference, Bhakta Bhuji journalist Abul Kalam Azad said that the extortion was completely false
and fabricated. No such incident had happened, the government officials who were with me at the scene of the incident saw everything.
