Police have arrested two people for raping a mentally unstable woman in Bhandaria, Pirojpur, and sharing the video on social media. They were arrested on the morning of August 26 (Tuesday), said Pirojpur Superintendent of Police Khan Muhammad Abu Naser.
The arrested Md. Zahid (40) is the son of Mozahar Hawladar of Ward No. 1 of South Sialkathi area of ​​Bhandaria Upazila. Md. Ziaul Islam Jihad (32) is the son of the deceased Ashraf Ali of South Sialkathi area. Jihad works as the Bhandaria Upazila correspondent of the daily Kirtankhola.
At a press conference, the Superintendent of Police said that late Monday night, at around 3 am, a mentally unstable woman was forcibly raped by rickshaw puller Md. Zahid on a bench in front of Faruk’s shop at the Hospital intersection of Bhandaria Police Station. The video of the rape was recorded by a journalist Md. Ziaul Islam Jihad. Later, Ziaul Islam Jihad threatened to spread the rape on social media and demanded money. Later, when Jihad uploaded the video on his social media account Facebook, the police came to the notice of the accused and arrested them. Journalist Jihad has been made an accused in the case for making a video of the rape and spreading it on social media without any hindrance. We have spoken to the Police Headquarters and BTRC about this matter and it has been taken down from social media.
Pirojpur Police Superintendent Khan Muhammad Abu Naser said that a case has been filed against two people under the Prevention of Women and Child Abuse and Pornography Act. The victim has been sent for a medical examination and two accused have been arrested. The accused will be sent to court very soon.
