Bangladeshi Padma Hilsa is going to Agartala, Tripura, India, on the occasion of the autumn Durga Puja. A truck loaded with 2,000 kg of hilsa was waiting at the Akhaura land port in Brahmanbaria on Thursday (September 18) morning.
Bangladeshi exporter Matab & Sons and Indian importer Paritosh Biswas are participating in this trade. Shakiyat Construction is responsible for clearing the hilsa.
Taking special consideration, the Bangladesh government has now given permission to 37 companies to export 1,200 tonnes of hilsa. This export must be completed by October 5. The price of hilsa per kg in the Indian market has been set at $12.50, which is about 1,525 taka in Bangladeshi taka.
Each hilsa weighs about 1.2 to 1.5 kg. Last year, permission was given for 2,420 tonnes, but only 1,306 tonnes were exported. This time too, exporters believe that it will not be possible to fulfill the full quota due to the fish shortage and high prices.
Akhaura customs official said that if all the documents are in order, trucks carrying hilsa will be able to enter India quickly.
It is worth noting that although hilsa exports were stopped in 2012, limited exports are being allowed during Durga Puja since 2019.
