Md. Moniruzzaman:
The Mymensingh City Corporation (MCC) has conducted an eviction drive to clear the footpaths and roads around Zainul Abedin Park, one of the main entertainment centers in Mymensingh.
The drive was conducted at 4 pm (July 14, 2026). The City Corporation’s mobile court has evicted about 100 shops illegally built on both sides of the park.
According to City Corporation sources, various temporary shops and floating businesses were illegally occupying the footpaths on both sides of Zainul Abedin Park for a long time. This was causing extreme disruption to the movement of visitors and the general public coming to the park and creating severe traffic congestion in the area. This special drive was suddenly launched this afternoon to alleviate public suffering and make the footpaths fully functional.
During the operation, all types of illegal structures and shops built at the main entrance of the park and on the sidewalks around it were demolished. The mobile court immediately removed more than a hundred illegal shops and released the park area.
The said mobile court was jointly run by the learned Executive Magistrate Nahid Hasan Khan and Executive Magistrate Zakir Hossain of Mymensingh City Corporation.
The prosecutor and sanitary inspector of the mobile court, Md. Javed Iqbal, along with the concerned officials of Mymensingh City Corporation and members of the law enforcement agencies were also present during the operation.
After the operation, the executive magistrates said that this eviction operation has been conducted to ensure the right of the people to move freely and to protect the beauty of the park. No illegal business or public nuisance will be allowed by occupying the sidewalks and roads. They warned that such public interest and eviction campaigns by the City Corporation will continue in the future.
Meanwhile, local residents and visitors to the park have applauded this sudden and drastic step by the City Corporation.
