Despite a crore-taka project, Sirajdikhan residents deprived of services
Md. Abdus Sabur Robin:
Although there was great hope among the local people after the construction of the Nimtala Nandani Railway Station in Sirajdikhan Upazila of Munshiganj, there is disappointment in the area as no regular passenger trains have stopped for a long time. Locals complain that this beautiful station with modern facilities is currently lying in a practically unused state.
Locals claim that with the opening of the station, people of Sirajdikhan and the surrounding areas expected that they would get easy, safe and affordable rail communication. But in reality, their expectations were not fulfilled as the train did not stop. As a result, students, employees, businessmen and ordinary passengers still have to rely on the road.
Local residents said that if this station, built at a huge cost of the government, cannot provide passenger services, then the entire purpose of the project becomes questionable. They demanded that at least a few commuter and intercity trains be stopped at the earliest.
According to conscious citizens, if the train stop is started at Nimtala railway station, it will have a positive impact on the business, trade, education and employment of the area. In addition, the communication system with Dhaka and surrounding districts will be easier and more dynamic.
Locals complain that although the attention of the concerned authorities has been drawn to the issue on various occasions, no effective action has been taken so far. As a result, people’s frustration is increasing day by day.
The residents of Sirajdikhan have urged Bangladesh Railways and the concerned ministry to take immediate action in this regard. Their expectation is that the public suffering will be alleviated and considering the needs of the people, the train stop at the Nimtala Nandani Railway Station will be ensured soon.
The locals have only one demand—”There is a station, but there are no trains; we want trains to stop regularly at Nimtala station.”
