Thursday (June 18), CNG driver Shafiqul Islam’s Anwara Begum said that on April 30, at approximately 2:30 pm, in the courtyard of their house in Boraharipur, Khoshbas South Union, Anwar Hossain, son of the deceased Hanif Mia, and his two sons, Md. Rian Hossain, Kamrul Hasan Hridoy, and Md. Khokon Mia and Swapan Mia, sons of the deceased Hanif Mia, attacked them and seriously injured them.
At that time, the seriously injured and unconscious Shafiqul Islam was first taken to the Barura Upazila Health Complex with the help of local residents. After providing first aid to the injured Shafiqul Islam, the doctor on duty advised him to be taken to Comilla Medical College Hospital. When his condition deteriorated, the doctor advised him to be taken to Comilla Navana Hospital on May 2. However, the doctor was absent there due to the weekend. When he was taken to Comilla Medical College Hospital on May 3, the doctor on duty advised us to be taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Since the patient’s condition was critical, he was admitted to Comilla Gomti Hospital, where Shafiqul Islam died.
After Shafiqul Islam’s death, on May 3, Anwara Begum, the wife of the deceased Shafiqul Islam, filed a murder case with the Barura Police Station, accusing the attackers.
‎After almost a month and a half since the filing of the 3rd murder case, the wife and children of the deceased Shafiqul Islam are suffering from extreme fear as no accused has been arrested yet. Moreover, the accused are often creating a frightening atmosphere by coming to the victim’s house with various country-made weapons and threatening to withdraw the case. In this regard, Barura Police Station Officer-in-Charge Kazi Nazmul Haque said that efforts are being made to arrest the accused.
