Since there is no industrial establishment or commercial center in the Mymensingh city area, the desired development has not been possible with local revenue. However, no new taxes have been imposed in this budget, rather taxes will be levied by ensuring development in the newly expanded areas of the city and no new taxes will be imposed in any sector before. He further mentioned that since assuming office on March 16, he has been working for the development of the city’s residents. Especially, drains and canals have been cleaned to eliminate waterlogging, as a result of which the city residents had forgotten about the Akua Canal and Gohailkandi Canal, which are now flowing with water. Although the city residents saw waterlogging for a while during this monsoon, they did not see waterlogging. He also said that five and a half hundred people will be hired to clean the city’s drains and canals and work on slum development. Mentioning many limitations and the lack of opportunities to work outside the government’s instructions, he said, “Keeping in mind that ‘the city is ours’, he seeks everyone’s sincere cooperation in making the residents a clean city.” He also announced that strict steps will be taken to free the city’s sidewalks from encroachments and reduce traffic congestion.
