Desk news: 30 July 2026 In order to ensure transparency, accountability and dynamism in the government’s development activities as well as sound human resource management, 767 Deputy Assistant Engineers of the Public Works Department have been transferred and posted through a lottery for the first time.
Through this lottery-based transfer program, a new example of transparency and impartiality has been set in the transfer and posting of departments and organizations under the Ministry of Housing and Public Works.
Today, Thursday, the workplaces and branches of 767 Deputy Assistant Engineers (Civil) of eight departments of the country were determined through a lottery at the conference room of the Public Works Building located in Segunbagicha in the capital. The entire lottery program was supervised and coordinated by Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, Md. Sarwar Alam.
Based on the lottery results, 317 deputy assistant engineers have been posted in various offices of Dhaka Division, 73 in Rajshahi Division, 133 in Chittagong Division, 74 in Khulna Division, 44 in Barisal Division, 33 in Sylhet Division, 29 in Mymensingh Division and 64 in Rangpur Division.
The posted deputy assistant engineers have been assigned to various branches of the Public Works Department’s head office, divisional offices and district-level executive engineer’s offices.
Regarding the transfer process through lottery, Additional Secretary Md. Sarwar Alam said, “Transparency, impartiality and accountability will be ensured as a result of conducting the transfer process through lottery. At the same time, an effective, modern and acceptable method has been introduced in human resource management.”
Additional Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department, Kazi Md. Firoz Hasan, who is involved in the lottery-based transfer process, said, “For the first time, such a lottery-based transfer process will play an important role in establishing trust, equality and transparency among engineers.”
At this time, Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department Md. Khalequzzaman Chowdhury, Joint Secretary Mohammad Mizanur Rahman, Joint Secretary Fouzia Khan, Deputy Secretary Khan Md. Nazmus Shoaib, Deputy Secretary Md. Abu Naser, Additional Chief Engineers Md. Abul Khair, Ashraful Haque and Md. Alamgir Khan, Superintending Engineer Sarwar Jahan, other engineers of the Public Works Department and media personnel were present.
Next week, the transfer and posting of deputy assistant engineers of the electromechanical branch of the Public Works Department will also be completed through lottery in the same manner.
