Satkhira is known as the coastal region of Bangladesh. It is one of the most vulnerable areas due to the impact of climate change. Cyclones, tidal waves, increased salinity and river erosion have had a devastating impact on the lives and livelihoods of people in these regions. The most affected are adolescent girls and the adolescent population, who are constantly facing various challenges in terms of health and safety in addition to education.
Last Saturday (September 6), speakers made these remarks at a discussion meeting to ensure climate-resilient health protection of women and adolescents at Charchandipur Government Primary School No. 179, Padmapukur Union, Shyamnagar Thana, Satkhira.
Shah Israt Ajmeri, Chairman of Children Watch Foundation, was present as the chief guest at the meeting. Afroza Akhter, Treasurer of Children Watch Foundation, was present as the special guest.
Moderated by Ariful Islam, the speakers highlighted various issues related to ensuring climate-resilient health protection for women and adolescents in coastal areas.
Muhasin Hossain said that increasing awareness among women and adolescents can ensure their health protection.
In his special guest speech, Afroza Akhter called on adolescents to come forward to ensure climate-resilient health protection.
In his speech as the chief guest, Shah Israt Ajmeri said that a new society will be created by ensuring climate-resilient health protection for women and adolescents and called on women and adolescents to come forward to create public awareness in this regard.
Also present at the event were Muhasin Hossain, Headmaster of Chandnimukha MM Secondary School, SM Yasminur Rahman Lincoln, Headmaster of Gabura Gopal Lakshmi Memorial Secondary School, and Ajmal Hossain, Assistant Teacher of Pakhimara Aminia Women’s Madrasa, among others.
