A mobile court has sentenced a dealer to two months in prison for illegally collecting money from beneficiaries in the name of distributing government food-friendly program cards in Maheshkhali. On December 23, the administration received a complaint that Azizul Haque, a dealer appointed under the food-friendly program under the Upazila Food Office, was collecting Tk 300 from each beneficiary and distributing the cards. After receiving the complaint, the concerned authorities immediately reached the spot and received written and verbal complaints from the victims. Later, Upazila Food Officer Awai Mong Chak filed a prosecution against the accused dealer. As the investigation proved the truth of the allegations and the accused dealer confessed to the crime, the mobile court sentenced him to 2 months in prison for disobeying government instructions and violating the law as per the Penal Code, 1860 and the Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2009. The mobile court was conducted by Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Md. Abu Zafar Majumdar. The administration informed that such campaigns will continue regularly to ensure the transparency of the government’s social security programs and protect the interests of the general public.
