A serious allegation has been made against LGED Engineer Md. Chanowar Hossain of Kalihati Upazila in Tangail for showing a fictitious project and paying a bill of about 10 lakh taka in the name of a contracting company without doing any work.
It is learnt that in the Kalihati LGED’2025-2026 financial year, a project was approved under the ADP for the internal road repair work of Kalihati Upazila Parishad, and the work of that project was given to a contracting company called Zaman Enterprise Prize of the Mahera area of ​​the neighboring upazila.
Without doing any work on the non-existent project of Kalihati Upazila Parishad, Upazila Engineer Md. Chanowar Hossain, Deputy Assistant Engineer Md. Akhter Hossain and the concerned contracting organizations embezzled 9 lakh 98 thousand 8 hundred 86 taka from the government in collusion with each other.
In the name of July closing, Upazila Engineer Md. Chanowar Hossain paid the first and final bill of the Upazila Parishad’s internal road repair work of 9 lakh 98 thousand 8 hundred 86 taka in favor of Mercus Zaman Enterprise dated 27 June 2026 through the bank and embezzled it, causing a loss to the government.
In this regard, the SO of that work and Kalihati LGED’s Deputy Assistant Engineer Md. Akhter Hossain said, who told you that the bill has been paid? Then when he was told the bill number, date and token number, he said, “I am at home now, you come to the office, it would not be right to talk without knowing.”
Upazila Engineer Md. Chanowar Hossain said, the bill has been raised and deposited, the contractor has not been paid. Although the name of the contractor is Mercus Zaman Enterprise and the name of the owner is S.M. Kamruzzaman, the Kalihati LGED could not provide any contact number of that company!
