A traveling court has sentenced a drug addict named Rabiul Islam (30) to three months’ imprisonment and fined 500 taka on the complaint given by his mother in Lalmonirhat.
Executive Magistrate and Lalmonirhat Sadar Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Jannat Ferdous Ara gave the sentence on Sunday (November 26) afternoon.
Convicted Rabiul Islam is the son of deceased Jonab Ali of Khochabari Nazrultari area of Lalmonirhat municipality.
Lalmonirhat Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Jannat Ferdous Ara said that after the death of her husband, Rina Begum ran the household by working as a maid in another’s house.
His second son Rabiul Islam is addicted to drugs. He physically and mentally abused the old mother for almost a day without demanding money for drugs.
Mother Reena Begum Sadar filed a written complaint with the UNO after her son’s torture. In view of that complaint, Sadar UNO Jannat Ferdous Ara set up a mobile court with the police at that house on Sunday afternoon.
At that time, Robiul was caught by the police while consuming Tapenta tablets. Later, when Rabiul confessed his crime, the mobile court sentenced him to three months’ imprisonment and fined him 500 taka.
In this regard, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Lalmonirhat Sadar Police Station Omar Farooq said that the convicted Rabiul Islam has been sent to Lalmonirhat Jail.
