Gazi Gias Uddin Bashir, Jhalokati : An eviction drive has been conducted by the district administration and the municipal administration to keep the sidewalks of Jhalokati city free from encroachment .
In the operation conducted in the College More area of the city on Thursday ( July 9 ) afternoon , illegal structures and floating shops built by occupying the sidewalk were demolished .
Assistant Commissioners SM Saiful Islam and SM Ashraful Islam led the drive on behalf of the district administration . On behalf of the municipality , Assistant Engineer of the Electricity Department Md . Nazmul Hasan, along with Ansar members and officials and employees of the municipality participated .
During the operation , about 15 to 20 illegal establishments were demolished . During this time, those operating illegally on the sidewalks were warned and instructed not to reoccupy them .
Responsible officials said that such campaigns will be conducted regularly to keep the sidewalks of Jhalokati city free from encroachment . The main objective of this campaign is to ensure smooth movement of the common people and enhance the beauty of the city . However, some unscrupulous traders have been occupying the sidewalks for a long time , causing disruption to the movement of pedestrians . Therefore , this eviction campaign has been conducted in the public interest .
