Md. Moniruzzaman, Mymensingh Correspondent:

On the orders of the court, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has started investigating the sale of government land worth 100 crores of Jute Mills at Rally Crossroads (Patgudam Adamji) in Mymensingh city for 5.5 lakhs. On June 6, 84 percent of the land was deeded to Sadar Sub-Registrar Mirash Uddin on the orders of the court. When the matter came to light a week ago, discussions and criticism started. The ACC conducted a drive at the relevant office from Sunday afternoon to afternoon to investigate the incident.
Revati Mohan Das owned 84 percent of the land in the town mouza next to Shahjahan Center at Rally Crossroads in the city. It was transferred to Adamji Jute Mills Limited through legal process in 1963. Later, when the jute mill was closed, the land remained abandoned and was recorded as government property in the BRS survey.
Almost 60 years later, in 2022, Rabindra Mohan Das filed a case (No. 514/22) against the Deputy Commissioner and Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation, claiming to be the son of Revati Mohan Das. However, the court dismissed the case on May 8, 2024.
However, before the case was dismissed, Rabindra Mohan Das gave a power of attorney (power to conduct the case) to Mirash Uddin Suman. He then revived the case and filed a new case of cataract. While the case was ongoing, on June 6 this year, Sadar Court Judge Pawan Chandra Barman ordered that the 84-acre land be registered in Mirash Uddin’s name for Tk 5 lakh 50 thousand. The Sadar Sub-Registrar implemented the court’s order on the same day. There is widespread criticism about this through various media and social media.
Abul Hossain, a resident of Rally intersection, said, the land is located next to the main road. Any industrialist can easily buy the land for 100 crore taka. However, I hear that it was sold for 5.5 lakh taka, which is ridiculous.
The Deputy Commissioner and the Anti-Corruption Commission launched an investigation into the matter amid criticism. Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Azim Uddin went to the Sadar Sub-Registry Office on Tuesday to investigate. He said, the matter has been investigated and a report has been submitted to the Deputy Commissioner. Basically, the Sub-Registrar has implemented the court’s order. On Sunday, a case was filed in the court on behalf of the district administration to suspend the activities of the previous document.
Md. Azharul Haque, public prosecutor of the Mymensingh District and Sessions Judge’s Court, said, the court ordered the Sub-Registrar to execute the land document after verifying the documents of the plaintiff and the defendant in the land case. The court had earlier issued notices to the district administration and the Sub-Registrar. This court did not have the opportunity to know whether there is a case in another court regarding the land. Now a case has been filed. The court has already stayed the proceedings of the previous document.
Sadar Sub-Registrar Md. Zahid Hasan said, I have completed the document proceedings as directed by the court. I have no opportunity to disobey the court’s order.
Raju Mohammad Sarwar Hossain, Assistant Director of the ACC of the Mymensingh Integrated District Office, said, “We are working to investigate the cause of the incident amidst the discussion and criticism. To find out the matter, we went to the Sadar Sub-Registry Office, Jute Mill Corporation and the court and looked through various documents. However, there is negligence on the part of many. A letter has been issued from the court to cancel the document and decree. Further investigation will be carried out and action will be taken against those involved in this incident.”
