Desk news: On the occasion of the 45th martyrdom anniversary of the great independence proclaimer, martyr President Ziaur Rahman Bir Uttam, ZRF Vice President and eminent cardiologist Dr. Zubaida Rahman inaugurated the ‘month-long tree plantation’ and ‘In Search of Future Scientists – Science Fair 2026’ initiated by Ziaur Rahman Foundation (ZRF).
This Wednesday morning, she inaugurated the tree plantation program by planting neem saplings at the Curzon Hall premises of Dhaka University. Later, she inaugurated the ‘In Search of Future Scientists – Science Fair 2026’ at the Central Gallery of the Department of Botany.
Acting Executive Director of ZRF, Professor Dr. The event, chaired by Morshed Hasan Khan and moderated by Professor Lutfar Rahman, convener of the ZRF committee formed on the occasion of Ziaur Rahman’s martyrdom anniversary, featured the following guests: Former Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University Professor Dr. AFM Yusuf Haider, current Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam, Director of ZRF Dr. Mostafa Aziz Sumon and agriculturist Boyzar Rahman.
In addition, Deputy Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University Professor Dr. Abdus Salam, Professor Al Mojaddidi Alfesani, Director of ZRF Dr. Shah Muhammad Aman Ullah, Professor Dr. Abul Hasnat Mohammad Shamim, agriculturist Shafiul Alam Didar, Amirul Islam Kagoji, along with deans, chairmen and teachers and students of various faculties were present at the event.
In the speech of the chief guest, Dr. Zubaida Rahman remembered the martyred President Ziaur Rahman and the late Begum Khaleda Zia with deep respect. She said that tree plantation creates opportunities for environmental protection, creating shade and building a beautiful and habitable world.
Dr. Zubaida Rahman said that teachers, students and researchers can play an important role in inventing scientific solutions to various problems of the country. She expressed the hope that every village and city of the country will become greener, cleaner and more beautiful for future generations.
She called for transforming tree plantation into a ‘green revolution’ of economic, social and generational development through public participation, rather than seeing it as just a conventional program. To this end, she also proposed the formation of green volunteerism, green volunteerism, climate youth fellowship and environment-based start-up fund. She also emphasized the inclusion of green volunteerism in school curricula to make students aware of the environment.
He further said that university students and teachers will be invited to participate in the ‘Search for Future Scientists’ competition.
Dr. Zubaida said that various problems of the country can be solved through scientific innovation and healthy competition in various fields including medicine, botany, physics, chemistry and information technology. Through new innovations, people’s suffering will be alleviated and the path to building a developed Bangladesh will be easier.
Congratulating everyone involved in the overall supervision of the program, Dr. Zubaida Rahman wished the competition all-round success. It is worth noting that as part of the central program, tree plantation programs were also inaugurated on the same day at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University and Sylhet Agricultural University.
