Bangladeshi physician Dr. Saqlain Russell has successfully completed the Ironman European Championship. This year’s edition of the world’s toughest triathlon Ironman was held in Hamburg, Germany on June 1, 2025 (Sunday).
The competition involves a continuous 3.8-kilometer swim, 180-kilometer cycle, and 42.2-kilometer run within a specified time. Dr. Saqlain Russell completed the distance in about 15 hours and earned the Ironman title. The triathlon event began at 7 am and ended at 11 pm.
Dr. Saqlain Russell said, it is a great honor to be able to raise the flag of Bangladesh in Germany. In other words, it is the successful realization of a big dream. However, unfortunately, those who are making the country shine by participating in this very expensive triathlon do not receive any government support or sponsorship. It is important for the government to pay attention to this matter.
Earlier, he completed the Ironman 70.3 held in Malaysia twice in a row. He was also the first doctor to swim from Teknaf to St. Martin’s. This 16.1-kilometer channel is known as Bangla Channel. He is a renowned vascular surgeon in the country by profession. He is working as the head of the vascular surgery department at Ibrahim Cardiac Hospital.
He is also the General Secretary of the Bangladesh Vascular Society. He is working as a senior news presenter of My TV. He is also serving as the president of the News Broadcasters Alliance of Bangladesh (NBA), an organization of news presenters of private television and radio.
