Devotees throng Kaptai Sitaghat for Maha Baruni Snan, Sri Sri Mata Sita Temple turns into gathering on banks of Karnaphuli

On the occasion of Madhu Krishna Trayodashi Tithi, thousands of devotees gathered at Sri Sri Mata Sita Temple located in Kaptai Sitaghat, a prehistoric pilgrimage site in Rangamati, on Tuesday (March 17).
Devotees of traditional religion, coming from various upazilas of Chittagong including the Chittagong Hill Tracts, expressed their heartfelt wishes to Mother Sita Devi by taking a holy bath in the historic Karnaphuli River, worshipping at Sita Temple, Shambhunath Temple and Kali Temple, and receiving Mahaprasad. On this occasion, a day-long Ashtaprahar Taraka Brahma Mahanam Yajna and Sita Mela were held.
The Sitaghat area has become a gathering place for people of all castes, creeds and religions. Devotees visiting this historic pilgrimage site visit various monuments of the temple and participate in religious rituals.
Teacher Abhijit Sarkar and teacher Bulbuli Karmakar, who came from the Lichubagan area of ​​Rangunia to participate in the Maha Baruni Snan, said, “We feel blessed to have come to this historic holy pilgrimage site. We visited various monuments of Mother Sita Devi and became holy by taking a bath in the Maha Baruni Snan.”
NGO official Tushar Dey, who came from Dhalghat in Patiya upazila of Chittagong, said, “Today, I visited the Mother Sita temple and participated in the Baruni Snan.”
In addition, Palash Chakraborty, a devotee from Syedbari area of ​​Rangunia upazila, and Shimul Chakraborty, a devotee from Kanukhil village, said, “We came to the prehistoric Sitaghat temple and participated in the Maha Baruni Snan and visited various temples.”
The function was presided over by Sri Sri Mata Sita Devi Temple Management Committee President Sri Samalendu Bikash Das and was attended by former Kaptai Upazila Parishad Chairman Dildar Hossain as the chief guest.
Babu Dayal Das, member of Rangamati Zilla Parishad, and Babu Sourav Priyo Pal, General Secretary of Abhayamitra Mahasmashan, Chittagong, were present as guests of honor.
Pushpen Barua Kajal, former President of Bangladesh Buddhist Culture Promotion Association (Youth) and Sri Ratnendu Bhattacharya, General Secretary of Bangladesh Mahatirtha Unnayan Committee, Chandranathdham, Sitakunda were present as the guests of honor.
Ashish Kumar Chowdhury, Deepak Kumar Bhattacharya, Priyotosh Dhar Pintu, Jagadish Chandra Das, Lotus Bhattacharya and Utpal Bhattacharya, along with leaders of various social and religious organizations, were present as special guests of honor at the function.
The program was hosted by Kaptai Upazila Shilpakala Academy General Secretary Jhulan Dutta.
Chief guest Dildar Hossain said in his speech,
Kaptai’s historic Sitaghat Sri Sri Mata Sita Temple is not only for the followers of traditional religions, it is an important symbol of our harmony and tradition. With the presence of devotees coming from far and wide on the occasion of Maha Baruni Snan, this place has become a gathering place today. By embracing this spirit of religion being everyone’s, festivals being everyone’s, we will further strengthen the bond of communal harmony. He sought everyone’s cooperation to continue such religious and cultural events in the future.
