International Desk: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said on Friday that a deal with the United States to end the Middle East war was closer than ever before.
Meanwhile, a senior US official and key mediator Pakistan also expressed optimism about a long-awaited agreement.
AFP news agency reports.
But publicly, the negotiating positions of the warring parties are still far apart.
Iranian state media has published details of a proposal that was allegedly on the table that clearly contradicts long-standing US “red lines” or hard lines.
US President Donald Trump has repeatedly insisted that a deal is almost final. But talks have dragged on and Trump made the same claim on Thursday.
But on Friday he expressed strong anger at Tehran. Trump accused Tehran of participating in the ill-fated operation after reports in Iranian media.
In his social media post, Trump wrote that the demands made by Iran “have nothing to do with the terms agreed to in writing.”
He also wrote, “These are very dishonest people who are difficult to work with. They should correct themselves and do it very quickly.”
However, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi did not seem to attach much importance to this issue.
The Iranian Foreign Minister wrote in a post on his social media that the memorandum of understanding or agreement is now closer than ever before.
He mentioned the Pakistani capital Islamabad, where talks between the United States and Iran have previously been held.
He added, “The media should refrain from speculating on its content until it is finalized.”
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baqaie denied Trump’s allegations, saying that an agreement had been reached with Washington on “most issues.”
He added that a meeting is currently underway in Iran to secure a final agreement.
“We are very close to reaching the final stage,” Bakai said.
