Md. Moniruzzaman:
Due to the lack of adequate lighting and CCTV cameras, the popular beaches of Cox’s Bazar have now become a source of fear for tourists. The situation deteriorates especially at night, where tourists are subjected to robbery, loss of belongings, and even unpleasant incidents. According to locals, the situation could become more dangerous if urgent action is not taken.
Lack of lighting and lack of security Tourists complain that there is no adequate lighting system on the beach. As soon as evening falls, the entire area is covered in darkness, which creates a conducive environment for criminals. At the same time, there is no adequate CCTV camera surveillance. As a result, robbers and criminals are continuing their activities without any hindrance. Locals said that despite several appeals to the administration, the situation has not improved much.
Tourists have requested the immediate intervention of the District Administrator to install more CCTV cameras and lighting in the beach area. According to them, this will not only increase the safety of tourists, but also play a helpful role in the development of the tourism industry.
Local resident Sajib said, “If adequate lights are not installed in the beach area, the situation will worsen. Ensuring the safety of tourists is our responsibility.” He also said that it is not permissible to go down to Inani Beach after 7 pm and we are seeking the intervention of the District Commissioner.
Tourist Azizul Haque, who is visiting, said that if you lose your belongings or get robbed, you do not get much help from them. Often, even if you lose your mobile, wallet, or vanity bag, the Cox’s Bazar police do not make any effort to recover it.
Victim tourist Rafiq Ahmed said, “We came to visit, but there is no security here. My mobile was robbed, but I did not get any help from the police or the local administration. Even though there is a CCTV camera, it is of no use.”
Another victim, Sayla Begum, said, “My vanity bag was stolen. When I went to the information center, they told me that the CCTV cameras were broken or not working. It seems that the administration is not paying attention.”
In this regard, Deputy Commissioner and Beach Committee President Mohammad Salauddin said, “Ensuring the safety of tourists is our main priority. We have made plans to improve the CCTV cameras and lighting system. These works will be completed as soon as possible.”
