A coordination and consultation meeting has been held in Kurigram to strengthen coordination between government and private organizations to ensure child protection and children’s rights.
The meeting was organized on Sunday afternoon at the meeting room of Terre des Hommes Foundation in the district town. The meeting was organized, implemented and financed by the Italian international development organization Terre des Hommes Italia (TDH Italia) under the ‘Samatar Alo-Light of Equality through Sponsorship’ project.
The meeting was attended by concerned officials of the Department of Social Services, Education Department, educationists, school teachers, NGO representatives, members of the Community-Based Child Protection Committee (CBCPC) and representatives of civil society.
The meeting received the opinions and recommendations of the participants to make the project activities more consistent with local realities, needs and existing policies. In addition, ongoing activities related to child protection, strengthening coordination between various stakeholders, existing challenges and future actions were discussed.
Kurigram Sadar Upazila Social Service Officer Md. Mashiur Rahman Mandal said, “This is a timely initiative. A coordinated initiative by government and private organizations is very important to ensure a safe, supportive and rights-based environment for children. Such activities will further strengthen the child protection system.”
He also said, “Through this initiative, the goal has been set to create an inclusive and safe learning environment, where even marginalized children will get the opportunity to learn in the light of equality and their rights will be ensured.”
According to the organizers, the main goal of this initiative is to further strengthen coordination between government and private organizations, ensure the sustainability of child protection activities and increase the effectiveness of the project through practical suggestions.
Kurigram Sadar Upazila Social Service Officer Md. Mashiur Rahman Mandal was the chief guest at the event. In addition, Kurigram Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kamal Hossain, CBCPC President Md. Al Amin, a teacher at Kurigram Girls High School, Hironmoy Sarkhel, project coordinator of Terre des Hommes Italia, and other relevant persons.
