Pirojpur Correspondent: A college student died in a head-on collision between a bus and an auto-rickshaw at Dumuritala on the Pirojpur-Barisal regional highway. Two others were injured in the incident. The incident took place around 12 noon on Thursday.
The deceased was Maria Akhter (18), daughter of Abul Kalam from Baneshwarpur area. Maria is a first-year student of Inter College at Aftab Uddin.
The injured auto driver Russell (35) and Hawa Begum (45) are residents of Baneshwarpur area.
Eyewitnesses said that when a local bus coming from Barisal reached Dumuritala on the Pirojpur-Barisal regional highway, it collided head-on with an auto-rickshaw coming from the opposite direction, killing the college student on the spot and injuring two others. The mother of the deceased student, Hawa Begum, and the auto driver Russell were rescued and taken to the district hospital in injured condition.
Atanu Halder, the on-duty doctor at Pirojpur District Hospital, said that when three people were brought to the district hospital in a road accident, the college student died earlier. The female patient named Hawa Begum has been referred for advanced treatment.
Pirojpur Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge OC Md. Shariful Islam said that the police have inspected the scene. The fatal bus has been seized. Legal action is under process in this regard.
