Book reading festival and competition held on ‘Nabiganjer Itikotha’ written by Matiar Chowdhury

A book reading festival and competition was held in Nabiganj, Habiganj district, to develop the habit of reading books among the young society and students and to spread knowledge. The program was organized at Hira Mia Girls High School in Nabiganj on Saturday (June 20) at the initiative of the Lal-Sabuj Cycling Club. The main topic of the program was the book ‘Nabiganjer Itikotha’ written by author Matiar Chowdhury. Nabiganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ruhul Amin was present as the chief guest at the program. Special guests were present – Former Mayor of Nabiganj Municipality Tofazzal Islam Chowdhury, Lecturer of Nabiganj Degree College Rezaul Karim, Teacher of Hira Mia Girls High School Pradeep Ranjit Das, Headmaster of Kanaipur Government Primary School Tuhin Ahmed, Headmaster of Chaushatpur Government Primary School Abdul Wahid Lablu, Headmaster of Rajnigandha Government Primary School Shahinur Akhter Chowdhury Panna, President of Anand Niketan Nabiganj Pranab Deb and renowned painter Asad Ahmed Suman. Also present were – Founder and President of Lal-Sabuj Cycling Club Md. Mazharul Islam Tarek. The speakers said – Although the interest in reading books has decreased somewhat in the current technology-based era, there is no alternative to books in acquiring knowledge, developing creativity and forming human values. It is very important to develop a culture of reading books to keep the new generation away from drugs, crime and negative activities. They also expressed their opinion that such an arrangement will play an important role in increasing the reading habit among the students. 14 talented students from various reputed educational institutions of Nabiganj participated in the competition. The first place was won by Mosha Hafiza Akhter Nadia, a student of Homeland Ideal School, the second place was won by Farzana Akhter Keya, a student of Ashtagram High School, and the third place was won by Joydeep Roy, a student of Homeland Ideal School. Later, the guests presented cash, crests and certificates to the winners. The students, teachers and guardians present at the event highly appreciated such an exceptional and educational arrangement. At the event, the Red-Green Cycling Club presented an award, crest and memento to Matiar Chowdhury, the author of the book ‘Nabiganjer Itikotha’, in recognition of his literary and research contributions. The award was received on behalf of the author’s family by Chalik Hossain Chowdhury Nurgaon and Shahinur Akhter Chowdhury Panna. The event was successfully completed with the overall cooperation of the members of the organization including Sheikh Mozahid Ahmed, General Secretary of the Red-Green Cycling Club, members Rimon Islam Khan, Kawsar Ahmed and Soumik. Shahriar Rashid Bulbul, English teacher of Ashtagram High School, played an important role in the planning and overall organization. The organizers said that such events will continue in the future with the aim of developing a reading habit in the society and making the new generation book-oriented.
