Laksam Correspondent: With the theme ‘Building a Bangladesh of peace and harmony, not conflict’, an interfaith dialogue was held in Laksam, Comilla, with the aim of establishing religious harmony, social coexistence and sustainable peace.
The dialogue was organized by The Hunger Project at the Laksam Upazila Parishad conference room on Sunday (June 22) morning. Peace Ambassador Mir Mohammad Abu Bakr Siddique presided over the program. Laksam Upazila Executive Officer Nargis Sultana was present as the chief guest.
PFG Ambassador and Laksam Upazila BNP Vice-President Abul Hossain Milon, PFG Ambassador Md. Sirajul Haque, Women Ambassador Nazneen Akhter Nipa, Principal of Fulgaon Fazil Madrasa Maulana Md. Yasin Majumder, Palash Vaishnav, Pragya Shree Ther and Karunadarshi Bhikkhu of Borigaon Buddhist Vihar, Dr. Abdul Momin Majumder, Nazmun Nahar Nupur, Dr. Kalyan Dutta, Former President of Laksam Upazila Corruption Prevention Committee Md. Abdul Quddus, Former General Secretary of Laksam Press Club Syed Mujibur Rahman Dulal and Laksam Upazila Zaker Party President Noor Alam Manik.
The keynote address was presented by MIPS Project Area Coordinator Md. Russell Ahmed under the overall supervision of journalist and PSG member Selim Chowdhury Hira. Syed Mohammad Nasir Uddin, Regional Coordinator of The Hunger Project, delivered the welcome address. The declaration was read out by PFG Ambassador Nazneen Akhter Nipa and the event was coordinated by Field Coordinator Khodeja Begum.
The speakers said that Bangladesh is a unique example of peaceful coexistence of people of many religions, cultures and communities. For ages, the people of this country have been participating in each other’s religious and social events with mutual respect, compassion and goodwill. It is the responsibility of every citizen to protect this tradition.
They also said that in recent times, various vested interests have been trying to create division and instability using religion. Especially on social media, attempts to create conflict by spreading rumors, misleading information and provocative propaganda are being observed. The speakers called for being cautious about such propaganda and accepting any information after verifying it.
The participants in the dialogue said that every religion in the world teaches humanity, tolerance and peace. No religion supports violence or conflict. Therefore, religious leaders, political figures, civil society and conscious citizens must work together to preserve religious harmony.
The speakers particularly emphasized the need to preserve Laksam’s long-standing tradition of communal harmony. They said that everyone must play a united and responsible role so that the peaceful environment and culture of mutual trust of Laksam are not damaged by any evil force.
